David R. Volk has served as President and Chief Executive Officer since September 2004. From January 2003 to September 2004, Mr. Volk was a founder and principal of White Oak Advisors, a consulting firm focused on biotechnology companies. From March 1997 to January 2003, Mr. Volk was Managing Director and Head of Life Sciences Investment Banking for RBC Capital Markets, a successor to Wessels, Arnold & Henderson, a privately-held investment bank in which he was one of 28 partners. Prior to his six years at Wessels, Arnold & Henderson and its successors, Mr. Volk spent 12 years as an investment banker within the Corporate Finance departments of Goldman Sachs, Kidder Peabody, and Robertson Stephens. Mr. Volk received his BA in economics from the University of California at Berkeley and a Masters of Management (MBA) degree from the Kellogg School at Northwestern University.
Craig W. Beattie has served as Chief Science Officer since October 2005. From 2000 through 2005, Dr. Beattie served as a Professor in the Department of Animal Biotechnology at the University of Nevada at Reno. He served as Chair of the Department from 2000 until 2003. From 2000 until 2005, Dr. Beattie served as a director of the Nevada Genome Center. Prior to 2000, he served as a professor in the Department of Veterinary PathoBiology at the University of Minnesota. Dr. Beattie received his B.S. and M.S. in Biology from Fairleigh Dickinson University, and his Ph.D. in Biological Sciences from the University of Delaware.
Steven E. Fleck has served as Chief Financial Officer since April 2006. From 1998 through 2005, Mr. Fleck served as Director of Accounting for Northfield Laboratories Inc., a publicly traded company. Prior to 1998, Mr. Fleck served as Accounting Manager as well as various other roles in Northfield’s accounting, finance and IT departments dating back to 1988. Mr. Fleck received his B.A. degree in Economics from the University of Illinois in 1984 and received an MBA degree from Northern Illinois University in 1987.
